Wedding season kicked off for me back in April with the wedding of Catherine and Carlos. They were married on a beautiful spring day surrounded by their closest family and friends. I’ve know Catherine for many years as we had attended grade school and high school together. When she contacted me earlier this year about her upcoming wedding, I was so excited to be able to capture their amazing day!
Catherine and Carlos live in the Yukon and they planned out their entire wedding via long distance with the help of family and friends! I must say everything came together so beautifully! The wedding took place at Immanuel CRC in Hamilton and we were able to use Sam Lawrence Park as the back drop for bridal party and bride and groom photos. There are so many gorgeous and unique places in Hamilton and this spot was pretty awesome!
Catherine and Carlos have a wonderful story of how they met and I wanted to open up my blog to have them share it here! I love being able to have my couples share their own stories here on my blog- it so much more personal if they tell it than if I do!
How did you and Carlos meet?
Carlos and I met on a humanitarian mission in the Meredon Mountains of Guatemala. It was my first trip to Guatemala, and Carlos’ third or fourth trip, although it was his first trip with the mission as well. Being from Ecuador, Carlos’ first language is Spanish, which was very useful considering most of the dental people on the mission barely spoke 5 words in Spanish. He was my favourite translator on the trip, and the conversations we had just made me want to know him more.
Tell us about how your relationship grew?
Conveniently, although we met in Guatemala, we only lived about a half hour from each other. We dated for about 10 months before we became engaged, and then shortly after getting engaged we moved to Whitehorse, Yukon.
What was your favourite memories of your wedding day?
It was a bit tough planning the wedding, since we lived in the Yukon and the wedding was in Hamilton Ontario, but everyone was awesome and much was accomplished through email and phone calls. My family were extremely helpful, and it definitely could not have been done without them! The wedding day dawned bright, sunny and warm, a welcome change from all the rain we had had in the days preceding the wedding. It was wonderful to have such a gathering of friends and family. We are grateful to God for such a beautiful day.

Catherine and Carlos’s day was such a testament to the faithfulness of God in their lives. They both were smiling from ear to ear the entire day.
