Ashley and John’s At Home Engagement Session – Kitchener Wedding Photographer

A few weeks ago, I was able to spend some time with Ashley and John at their home that they will live in together once they are married for their at home engagement session.  This was my first time shooting an at home engagement session and I’m totally sold on these types of sessions!  There’s just something special about being in the comfort of your own home and in spaces that mean so much to you.  If you are thinking about an in home engagement session, I hope this blog post will help convince you to do one!

I started out capturing some images of them just hanging out on their couch reading the latest Acts of Synod book.  They literally had me smiling the whole time behind the camera!  These two were a blast to hang out with!  In these pictures you can tell they love to have fun together and love making each other smile.  Behind their house is a park where they often have picnics so we headed there as well for a picnic complete with Challah, Gouda cheese and good craft beer!

John and Ashley have such a great story on how they met and rather than me trying to re-tell it, I’m going to open up this blog post so they can share their story with you all!

How did you and Ashley meet?

Ashley and I met, of all places, at synod (the general assembly of the Christian Reformed Church). I was a pastor delegate and Ashley was a young adult representative. We had a mutual friend who brought us together, and hung out almost every night.

Tell me about how your relationship developed?

After synod was over, we continued to stay in touch, texting and talking on the phone, and it quickly became clear that this was developing into more than a friendship. A month after synod, I was on my way to visit my sister in Houston, Texas, and Ashley asked me out. I was very impressed by that, and things moved quickly from there. I asked her if she wanted to get married in October, and got her a ring in December.

What are you most excited about for your wedding?

We will be getting married in August, and are very excited to see our friends and family from all over the world…we have guests coming from Ontario, Michigan, Arkansas, Seattle, California, even as far away as Thailand! Mostly, though, we are excited to begin our life together as a married couple.

Congratulations again Ashely and John on your engagement! I wish you many blessings over the next few weeks leading up to your wedding day!

✨👀 Watch Me Edit 👀✨

As I was shooting this gorgeous maternity session last fall, a couple of walkers passed us by in the background and yelled, “I hope we don’t photobomb you!” I knew that they would and rather than pausing, I kept on shooting.

@lightroom is simply the bomb and I literally use it for about 99% of my editing. Their AI generative feature is killer! I have used it SO MUCH since it’s been released. It helps me get rid of fly away hairs, mosquito bites, photobombers and so much more. This is one feature I’ve been again and again thankful for!

Here’s a quick fun video of me editing out those nature walkers! It’s just a basic AI fix bit still shows the power of the tool!
