I’m sure that when you read the title of this blog post you are wondering what is she talking about? I think you should sneak out your wedding reception and I’m here to tell you why! Trust me, its a good reason!
If you have invested in a full day of photography coverage, a special bonus I like to encourage all of my couples to consider is photos during golden hour. What’s golden hour you ask? It is by far a photographers most favourite light to shoot in! The light softens and its shadows are less harsh. It takes on an ethereal, heavenly glow and everything it touches turns to magic. Being able to photograph subjects in this light always results in gorgeous images! Golden Hour is the 45 minutes or so of light that happens before sunset. This is the light that makes us photographers giddy with excitement!
During the summer months golden hour is much later than the fall or winter months. Oftentimes it falls right smack in the middle of your wedding reception. I will often ask (or suggest!) that they take advantage of sneaking out of their receptions for 10-15 minutes to capture a few moments together in that golden light. Not only is it a magical time for photos, it gives you a bit of a breather in the busyness of the day. This is one of very few quiet moments in your wedding day and I know all my couples have really cherished this time together. It’s like a breather before heading into celebrate the night away with family and friends.
Have you thought about doing this for your wedding day? I’d highly encourage you to take advantage of the golden hour light to capture some moments of the two of you together!
