Florida Vacation – Part 1 of 2

This post has been a long time coming and I’m excited that I have finally time to do it!  I was able to edit all our family pictures earlier this summer and put them into a Blurb book. The book is over 100 pages and is awesome!  What I love about it most is that my kids love reliving memories by paging through the book and seeing all the fun things we did!

We started out our vacation by stopping in Georgia and getting our family photos done by my friend Katie of Katie Oblinger Photography!  She is super talented and I’m so glad we finally got to meet.  From Georgia we headed to Orlando, Florida.  There we stayed at Liki Tiki and ended up running into our former boss from the greenhouse there and some other people we knew– it really is a small world!  We went to an Orange Grove and had a great time picking oranges and grapefruit and they were so delicious!  We also went to Wild Florida where we went on an airboat tour and we were able to see alligators! And we also saw an alligator feeding- it was amazing!

After Orlando we headed to Daytona Beach.  And this was the highlight of our trip for me.  Spending time on the beach, watching Dolphins, avoiding the yucky jelly fish, and watching the sheer joy on my children’s faces- it was heavenly.  My kids still ask me when we are going back!  I’m hoping soon!  We found a really cool spot called Ponce Inlet and it had the best little Marine Science Centre.  We learned about a little screech owl and saw the sea turtle hospital.  After the Science Center, we headed to a restaurant on the pier and had fresh fish– it was the best fish I’ve had!  We ended our stay by checking out Manatees in Cape Canaveral and also did some shelling on a beach there.

This trip was packed with so much and I am so glad to say that we went to Florida and did not go to Disney.  When we would tell the locals that we weren’t going they said, Oh good, there is so much to see in Florida besides Disney!  And I’m so thankful we did it our way.  Roelof planned an incredible amount of our trip and also did the majority of our driving.  The kids did mostly okay, there were a few times where we thought we wouldn’t make it, but for the most they were excellent travellers.

And I have so many more pictures but here are a few of my favourites!  I’ve broken the post up into two segments.  So scroll to the bottom to see Part 2!

Okay sappy mom post below!👇

As I was compiling this reel it dawned on me that my daughter was the reason I got into photography in the first place. I’ve been been photographing her back for almost 17 years now 🤯

I’ve seen the world through her eyes!
I’ve learned about rocks, bugs, animals, fish, plants.
I’ve experienced wonder, joy and awe

And she taught me all that!

It’s not lost on me that she only has a little over a year left of high school, then who knows where the world where bring her.

It makes me just a wee bit weepy but also fills me with a whole lot of gratitude. I’m thankful that I now have all these memories locked away in my heart, but also in picture form.

So make the trip. Plan the outing. Make memories. Love.⭐️💗
✨👀 Watch Me Edit 👀✨

As I was shooting this gorgeous maternity session last fall, a couple of walkers passed us by in the background and yelled, “I hope we don’t photobomb you!” I knew that they would and rather than pausing, I kept on shooting.

@lightroom is simply the bomb and I literally use it for about 99% of my editing. Their AI generative feature is killer! I have used it SO MUCH since it’s been released. It helps me get rid of fly away hairs, mosquito bites, photobombers and so much more. This is one feature I’ve been again and again thankful for!

Here’s a quick fun video of me editing out those nature walkers! It’s just a basic AI fix bit still shows the power of the tool!
